At 4,167 metres, Jebel Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa and the second highest in the Arab world. Standing on its summit — with the Atlas Mountains rolling in every direction and the Sahara shimmering on the horizon — is one of the most rewarding experiences Morocco has to offer. Our Mount Toubkal trekking tour makes the ascent accessible for fit, determined hikers, with an expert mountain guide leading the way.

2-Day Toubkal Trek Itinerary

Day 1 — Marrakech to Imlil to Toubkal Refuge (3,207m)

Depart Marrakech early by private vehicle to Imlil village (1,740m), the gateway to the Toubkal massif. Meet your certified mountain guide and begin the ascent through Berber villages, walnut groves, and dramatic mountain scenery to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m). Overnight at the refuge with dinner included.

Day 2 — Summit Toubkal (4,167m) & Descent to Marrakech

An early start (typically 5:00–6:00am) for the final push to the summit, which takes 3–4 hours depending on conditions. At the top, enjoy panoramic views stretching to the Sahara and the Atlantic, then descend back to Imlil and return to Marrakech by private vehicle, arriving late afternoon.

How Hard Is the Toubkal Trek?

Toubkal is a challenging but non-technical trek — no climbing skills or ropes are needed outside winter, but you do need good fitness and stamina, as you gain significant altitude over two days. The summit push is steep and the air is thin, so a steady pace is key. Your guide sets the rhythm and manages the day so that reasonably fit hikers can reach the top.

  • In winter, crampons and an ice axe (we advise and can provide equipment)
